Haven Healthcare: Staying Healthy in an Office Job
Working a full-time office job certainly takes a toll on your health. When you sit all day in front of a computer, it’s easy to feel tired and sluggish after work. Over time, your job can start to take a serious toll on your health, causing weight gain and chronic pain.
At Haven Healthcare, we work with many patients who suffer from chronic pain and other health problems due to their job and lifestyle. We’re here to tell you that there is hope. Just because you’re stuck in the office doesn’t mean you can’t stay in shape. It just takes a little more work. Here are a couple tips to help you stay healthy.
Eat a Healthy Breakfast
If you have a tendency to sleep in late, rush to work, and skip breakfast, you aren’t doing your health any favors. Set your alarm a little earlier and make yourself breakfast in the morning. Your body will thank you.
Instead of eating a granola bar on the go, take the time to make something that covers a few basic food groups. In the morning, it’s important that you eat some whole grain, protein, and fruit. By eating a healthy breakfast, you can get your metabolism going and prevent yourself from snacking at your desk in the morning.
Drink Plenty of Water
Office workers are notorious for drinking too much coffee and soda. Instead of filling up on caffeinated beverages, drink more water instead. Staying hydrated is not only great for you, but it will also keep you awake throughout the day. Dehydration is known to cause sleepiness.
Bring a Healthy Snack and Lunch
Between vending machines, bagels, and donuts, junk food seems to be everywhere you look in an office. Though these snacks may be convenient, they are also unhealthy. Instead of eating office junk food, prepare healthy lunches and snacks to eat throughout the week. If you are looking for something to munch on at your desk, bring fruit or something nutritious. In addition to benefiting your health, prepping your meals will save you money as well.
Stay Active Outside of Work
At Haven Healthcare, we know it can be difficult to stay active after work, but it’s important that you set aside some time to exercise. Instead of coming home and watching TV, take a walk around the neighborhood. You can also join a gym or take an exercise class. In general, stay away from sitting in a front of a screen like a computer or a TV. This will give your eyes and body a much-needed break from stimulation.
